Nightmare Act One

As noteworthy as the Countess Quest turned out to be, there was still more of Act One to get through before the Rogues could move on to Lut Gholein. After clearing up to the Inner Cloister (and having more trouble in the Pit, though no pictures from that venture), another major boss was encountered in the Jail:

The Smith was Cold Enchanted, which was perhaps a favorable draw. We could have done much worse in terms of boss abilities. I don't recall the specifics of this battle, but I think the fight was managed without much trouble. By this point, everyone was getting more used to organized retreats from dangerous monsters.

Now here's a boss with more abilities than you'll see in Normal! So Bone Ash is not only Extra Strong and Magic Resistant, but also Lightning Enchanted and Cold Enchanted - and firing poison shots (which themselves are extra strong). Gotta love that yummy cold lightning feature too. And yet despite these abilities, this wasn't the hardest boss to take down, since his immunities were to cold and lightning (no fire resistance). All of the Rogue damage is physical and fire (from Enchant), which means that Stone Skin/Fire Immune bosses take ages to bring down. If we ever run into a Physical Immune/Fire Immune boss... well, we'll still be fighting him when you read this message.

There were a lot of champs down in the Catacombs. Champ Shamans, Champ Spiders, and here Champ Vampires. You can see a number of other corpses of downed champs on the groud if you look closely. This picture is again taken at the tail end of a fight, as the Champ has been isolated and now stunlocked from all the arrows. It certainly looks painful, doesn't it? That's what we were suffering from when we ran into the three archer boss packs in the Countess Quest.

Finally, Andariel herself. We did better on this battle than in Normal (ironically), with everyone preparing some Antidote potions ahead of time and releasing her when we were ready. All of the Rogues were hitting and moving, not staying in one place for any length of time, confusing Andy, etc. I don't remember if we had any deaths or not, but I do know that we had much less difficulty on this trip through Catacombs 4 than the first time. Imagine that, all the dangerous situations in Act One actually taught us some caution. With the Monastery cleared, it was on to Act Two (and endless seas of Burning Dead...)
