A surprising number of the trips that I've written about on this website have been work trips of various sorts, and this trip to the United Kingdom was another such case. The specific occasion was a work trip for my wife Liz which was bringing her to the city of Bristol for three days in early June. She would be presenting on the eductional games that she helps develop while I would be tagging along as a deadbeat husband to take advantage of the free lodgings (with our 20-month son William staying at home with his grandparents). Liz had to spend about half of this trip at the conference which was the whole reason for traveling in the first place, however I had no such commitments and could skip out to do a good bit of sightseeing before returning back in the evenings for a shared dinner. Being situated in Bristol instead of London was a huge advantage as I could visit an entirely new set of attractions located within a few hour's drive. Before the week was over, Liz would join me in visiting Stonehenge, Cardiff (in Wales), and Windsor while my solo forays would take me to various famous cathedral towns, the idyllic Cotswolds region, and even all the way to Cornwall at the tip of the island. This was therefore the story of our trip to Southwest Britain - not Southwest England since we did spend an afternoon in Wales!
